Costpoint 7: Ending the Lockout

Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: it’s almost 5:00 and you need to process one last transaction in Costpoint before clocking out for the day. This critical item needs to get into your Costpoint system by the end of the day. It’s all that stands between you and a relaxing night at home. But, one of your teammates forgot to exit the processing screen prior to leaving for the day and now you’re like the NFL referees earlier this football season – locked out.

The three dreaded words in Costpoint 6 (and earlier versions) – “Single User Function” - create havoc for organizations large and small. Whether you’re posting a journal entry, bill, or voucher, if the user locking the screen is nowhere to be found, you’re stuck in limbo until they return and exit the screen. Or, you have to scramble to find your Costpoint administrator and request the user to be cleared from the screen so you can continue working.  

Well, this user is happy to tell you that with Costpoint 7, those days are a thing of the past!  Not only can multiple users now access processing screens simultaneously, but now you can also create batch jobs that can be sent to a job queue for processing. Once batches are sent to the queue, the jobs are processed in the sequence in which they were received. You can then go about your daily business and be notified when the job completes! The capability to run processes to a queue not only enables the same process to be executed simultaneously (creating efficiencies), but it also allows users to continue working without worrying if a process has been completed (creating yet even more efficiencies).

If you’re reading this post, this has most likely been a pain point for you, so I encourage you to upgrade to Costpoint 7 so you can bust the lockout and start being productive!
