MJ Thomas – Director of Security, General Dynamics – Bath Iron Works

MaryJo “MJ” Thomas is Director of Security at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works. She is responsible for overseeing all BIW Security functions including cyber, industrial and physical plant security programs. She manages day-to-day activities and ensures compliance with all programmatic, regulatory, legal and contractual requirements for these areas. She has extensive experience in matters concerning national security and the protection of defense weapons and technology, with specific expertise in crisis and change management and investigative leadership.

Ms. Thomas served as the Section Chief for the FBI’s Counterproliferation Section from March 2017 to June 2020. In 2015 she was assigned to FBI Houston as the National Security Branch Assistant Special Agent in Charge. In April 2010 Ms. Thomas was assigned as a Supervisory Special Agent for FBI Louisville’s Counterintelligence Squad.

Ms. Thomas entered on duty with the FBI in June 2000. After graduation from the FBI Academy, she was assigned to work Cyber matters in the FBI Pittsburgh Field Office. Following the attacks on September 11, 2001, Ms. Thomas transitioned to work counterterrorism matters in Pittsburgh, later transferring to FBIHQ Counterterrorism Division. From 2003 through 2006, she served in several overseas temporary assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the FBI’s Terrorist Financing Operations Section supporting the exploitation and target efforts of DOD Special Forces.

From 2006-2009 Ms. Thomas served as the Special Assistant to the Executive Assistant Director for the Science & Technology Branch dedicated to working with DOD and Special Forces assigned in Iraq and Afghanistan providing investigative expertise utilizing biometrics to identify and track the adversary. From 2009-2010 she served as the Unit Chief for the Technical Response Unit responsible for FBI Communications overseas, special events and in support of crisis response.

Ed Bassett – Chief Information Security Officer, NeoSystems LLC

Mr. Bassett is a senior Cyber Security and Risk Management subject matter expert with over 32 years of experience in all aspects of security and privacy program architecture, design, management, and operations. His experience spans Government, Health Care, Financial Services and other industries and includes risk management, program planning, application and software security, security assessments and audits, and security operations.

He built and led a global security consulting practice specializing in security strategy, assessment and testing, and managed security services. He has been the principal advisor to many Fortune 500 and government clients on information systems security, responsible for securing their critical information assets for e-commerce transactions, sensitive health records, and classified military communication. Ed is a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Clarkson University where he earned a degree in computer science.
