Use it or Lose it: Understanding When to Recycle or Restructure Your Data

After you have had your system for some time all the wonderful rules you established in the beginning start to loosen.  Your reporting requirements increase and the level of analysis has deepened.  Costpoint provides some options to help mitigate this natural growth in your data needs, but as time passes it can take more and more time to produce what seems like tasks that should be much easier.

Then the questions start?  How do I fix this?  Did I do something wrong?  Did someone else do something wrong?  Do you feel like your reporting system is falling farther and farther into quicksand.

What you are experiencing is not uncommon to medium and long term users of Costpoint.  As your organization grows, those initial assumptions you made about how to configure Costpoint begin to be strained.  Your organization ids have increased.  Your accounts have increased.  Your number of project has increased and so has the complexity of their setups.  Your UDEFs are choking your Cognos reports.

Come to listen to David McCallister from NCTCOG (Northern Central Texas Council of Governments) and Brian Twaddell discuss the analysis NCTCOG performed to determine if they could patch one more year or if it was time to “bite the bullet” and restructure the data to better align with their reporting needs.

David will share the process his organization used to determine the pros and cons and eventually set the course for their path forward to restructure your data.

There is no greater value than learning from history.  Please come and hear David share his organization’s journey and use it to help plan your strategy to extend your current system and/or take the next step to restructure your data.

The session is GC-193 “Use it or Lose it: Understanding When to Recycle or Restructure Your Data” Thursday,  October 17th, 2013 11:00 am in Forth Worth 5, Ballroom Level.

We look forward to seeing you there!
